I can trace my paternal ancestors back to definitely the late 1300's. They
were landed gentry--not peers or royalty. Family tradition always had one
son who became a Catholic priest. All of these priests married, had
children, and left wills until after some of the family migrated to America.
The last one we know was a Catholic priest and who married was in 1783 in
America. (He returned to England.) By then, most of the family were
protestants and I don't think any of them are practicing Catholics now.
