A correspondant was kind enough to e-mail me to say, quote:
John Middleton and his wife did go to Virginia, but they returned in their
later years, and he died at his surviving daughter Charity's house in
Frederick / Montgomery Co., MD.

I don't have any further information on that, but thought I should get the
corrected info in the archives.
