Hi Saundra,
#32 Thomas SMOOT did not die on 8 April 1668. The exact date of his death
is unknown, but it was prior to that date.
#65 Grace was a widow WOOD, not nee WOOD. She may or may not be the mother
of #32 Thomas SMOOT.
#33 You list as Jane BATTEN. I know Jane is the spelling people commonly
list of her name, [probably from Harry Wright Newman's book] but in the
original records I have viewed of it, it is spelled Jone/Joan. In her
brother William BATTEN's will, it is spelled Jone. In Thomas SMOOT's
inventory, it spelled Joan. [See citations 2 and 3 at:
http://home.netcom.com/~fzsaund/smoot.html ]
You list the parents of Jone/Joan as #66 and #67, Captain William BATTEN and
wife Mary. What is your source for this? There was a Captain William
BATTEN [with wife Margery] who was her brother. He named his "sister" Jone
SMUTE and his "brother-in-law" Thomas SMUTE in his will. I've never seen
evidence as to the parents of William BATTEN and sister Jone/Joan (BATTEN)
SMOOT.
I have seen some researchers that have confused the BATTEN and BARTON
families (and have tried to make Captain William BARTON and Captain William
BATTEN the same person). This is probably because #32 Thomas SMOOT had as
brothers-in-law both Captain William BATTEN [who was his wife's brother],
and Captain William BARTON [who married his sister Ann SMOOT]. In addition
to William BATTEN's will calling Thomas SMOOT his brother-in-law, there are
land records where William BARTON called Thomas SMOOT his brother-in-law,
which may be why people have confused the two. Are you sure that your #66
and #67 are not actually #34 and #35, [Captain] William BARTON and wife
Mary?
Also, you can add a #68 William BARTON to your list. See
http://home.netcom.com/~fzsaund/barton.html
for details.
