Hello Everyone,
I'm hoping some of the learned people of this list will be able to help me.
I'm new to researching in Charles County, however, not knew to Maryland
research.

I'm stuck on one stubborn, likely ancestor! His name was John REDDISH, was
most likely married to Tabitha.

I have found that John and Tabitha REDDISH were transported to MD in 1680,
what is a little confusing is they were transported by John REDDISH. The
Somerset County folks think it likely that they were transported from VA, but the
actual document I received from the MD Archives doesn't say where they came
from, only a list of people. I believe that a John Baker was involved in this
transporting of people, as all headright land seems to have been signed over to
Mr. Baker. Did he bring himself and Tabitha, or did he bring another John
and Tabitha? John Reddish seemed to get a couple of servants out of the deal,
but no land that I've found. Yet...

John shows up in a number of Assembly Proceedings, found on the Archives of
Maryland web pages, in a number of tax assessments. In 1683, his land is
nominated as a town, "STUMP NECK in CHINGOMUXON, on Mr. Jno Reddishes land." In
1686, or around there (going on memory), the land is turned down as a town,
"of the late Mr. Reddish." I'm not sure if Stump Neck is the name of land or
an identification in the area mentioned.

Again, my fellow Somerset County listers seem to feel that "the late" does
not necessarily mean he is dead at this time, perhaps moved on. I've searched
the impressive Charles County Website, but found nothing when I thought I
would when I saw how much was available. No John Reddish in probate records,
nor in the online listing of land records.

I'm at a disadvantage in that I live on the West Coast. Any ideas on how to
find probate records of any kind to determine whether he actually died in
Charles County, and if so, any descendants left behind? Or how to locate land
records, he obviously had land, whether it was left to someone, sold or what?

I hope this is list is as helpful as the Somerset County list has been. I
thank you all in advance for reading and any help, information or advice you
can give!
