I think Walter and Margaret Tant Pye's son, Walter Jr. did died in 1742.
During the 1740's most records related to the Pyes seem to be in Prince George
County. I have puzzled, too, regarding the Charles Pye in this Walter Jr.'s
estate settlement. It seems a little unlikely that Walter Sr.'s brother
Charles came over from England during that period since Walter is often executing
leases with a power of attorney from his brother, Charles, but it is not
out of the question that Charles came over very briefly just to put his affairs
in order since those Powers of attorney call him Charles Pye "of Prince
George County". It is possible Walter Sr. had a son named Charles who died
between 1742 and Walter's own death in 1749. As far as I know, there is no other
reference in the 1740's to a Charles Pye except the above documents.
The Walter Pye who is regularly involved in all the Pye documents of the
1770's is almost surely Walter, son of Edward and Sarah Edelen Pye. He was born
before 1743, married Eleanor Sewall, daughter of Nicholas Lewis Sewall, and
was still alive in 1795. In the 1770's he was the only adult male Pye
after John Pye died in 1772, so was involved in most Pye documents for the
ladies of the family. He also continued the association with the William and Ann
Neale family and witnessed Raphael Neale's will in 1784 together with
Charles Pye (presumably John and Henrietta's son, born 1760).
More evidence or opinion in this regard would be appreciated.
