I think John Dobricky made a good case in some postings to this list (or the
St. Mary's Co one) within the last few weeks that Elizabeth Guibert married
James Neale (d. 1753), son of Roswell Neale, and not James Neale (d. 1761),
son of Benjamin. Without repeating the evidence here, it seemed logical to
me.
Of course, James (d 1761) had a wife named Elizabeth who then married 2nd to
Gerrard Neale. Elizabeth died before the 1768 account of James Neale's
estate so Gerrard Neale posted that Account. It was not done by "her sister Ann
and her husband Gerrard Neale" as stated in Donnelly's book. Gerrard Neale
did have a second wife named Anne by whom he had a son, Joseph Neale, born in
1771. This second wife of Gerrard Neale's, whoever she was, seems to have
been a somewhat younger woman and she went on to marry Roger Brooke by 1777
at least. It seems very doubtful she would be Ann Guibert.
Donnelly's book is also incorrect in giving James (d. 1761) son Walter Neale
a birth date of 3/25/1742. The 1768 Account gives his age as 15 so he was
apparently born ca 1753. Daughter Mary was said to be "of age" which I
suspect was 16 in this case. The two others daughters, presumably younger, died
after their father but before the 1768 account. The Gerrard Neale estate paid
a 1772 debt to Dr. Adderton for medicines for Gerrard's son-in-law (ie
stepson) Walter Neale. It is possible Walter Neale died about that time? Does
anyone have further evidence regarding him?
I think Linda Reno had good reason to suspect a Pye connection to the above
family. John Pye was one of the surities for the estate of James Neale, d
1761. Then, the securities for the estate of Gerrard Neale were: Jesse
Matthews and Walter Pye. These two persons were son-in-law and son of Edward and
Sarah (Edelen) Pye. Edward and Sarah Pye only had three children:
Elizabeth (b. 15 Dec 1736), Margaret (m. lst Jesse Matthews, 2nd Joseph Semmes), and
Walter, b. bef 1743 married Eleanor Sewall (dau of Nicholas Lewis Sewall).
Their eldest daughter Elizabeth was alive during the years Edward Pye's
estate was being settled (early 1750's), but deceased by the time her mother Sarah
Pye died in 1773. Could she have been the wife of James Neale (d 1761)?
If so, she would have had to marry very young as she would have been only 16
when dau Mary was born and 17 when son Walter was born. Seems a little tight,
though daughters whose fathers were deceased often seem to marry at younger
ages. Something for consideration. It would explain James Neale naming a
son Walter for Elizabeth's only brother. Let me be very clear: I am only
offering this identification as a POSSIBILITY--NOTHING MORE. And maybe it isn't
even a possibility?

PS Sarah Pye's 1773 will names first in a list of bequests to
grandchildren: ANN NEALE. Who was she? Sarah had several children by her first
husband, Samuel Queen, but none married a Neale. One grandchild might have
married a Neale, but I have found no evidence of it yet.
