Carol, who do you have as Ignatius Wathen's other two wives? I have Miss Waring
(since his son was named Waring Wathen), and #2 Mary Suttle, d/o John Suttle,
Mary mentioned "the heir of dau. Mary Wathing, decd" in John's 19 Sep 1751 will,
implying to me that she only had one child.

: As one interested in all the Wathens, this thread is enlightening! I have
Ignatius' (3rd) wife as Susannah Hawkins. This has come down as "tradition" and
I haven't seen it documented. John Brooke was a witness to Ignatius' 1757
will -- the custom was to have a relative of the wife/widow as one witness, and
a relative of the husband as the other, if possible. (You can't take this as
written in stone - sometimes they were simply neighbors). This will take new
study <G>
:
: As to your land, Chris,.Green's Inheritance, Spye Park and Two Partners are
just east of Pomfret - walking distance. Probably also southeast, since they
were large plantations. There is a sign on the gate of Green's Inheritance.
All were owned at one time by the Coombs/ Coombes/Combs family
:
: The rent rolls for Two Partners reads:
:
: Two Partners, 1238 acres. Originally called the Meadows (and in Prince
George's Co.), and contained 20 acres. Resurveyed for William Coomes May 9, 1754
on Portobacco Branch. patented Oct. 15, 1755. Possessor: 1238 William Coomes
:
: 150 Mary Miles from William Coomes Oct. 4, 1765 (note: Mary Miles was
William's daughter)
:
: 260 William Coomes Jr and ditto, Oct. 24, 1765
:
: 260 William Coomes Sr. fr. Wiliam Coomes Jr, May 31, 1774
:
: 150 Ditto fr. Edward Miles and wife, ditto
:
: 283 William Coomes Jr fr. William Coomes Sr. ditto
:
: 143 Mary Miles from ditto, ditto
:
:
: In 1757 William Coombes sold Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer 654 acres of Two
Partners for £200 sterling (NOTE: Daniel then rented some to Henry Wathen for
his two daughters, Winstead & Whittier) land patented to Coomes 15 Oct 1755 for
1238 acres - small black scrbby oak by small glade or pond and at end of south
83ºE line of said tract - S 47ºW 80 perches - S 306 perches to N 80ºE line of
Gardiners (Godsons) Courage - N 80ºE 40 perches to end of said line - S 22ºE 42
perches - E 290 perches - N 15ºE 125 perches = N 25ºW 128 perches - SW 202
perches = 654 acres; Winifred, wife of William Coomes, signed dower (Charles Co.
Land Lib. G-3, fol. 159)
:
: Chris - note that Henry Wathen was Waring/Wearing's brother.
:
: Hope this adds some to the discussion. Will be following it closely....

:: I'm researching the descendants of John Brooke who lived in Charles County
:: from about 1685 until his death in 1718 and his descendants. He doesn't
appear
:: connected to the honorable Brooke family descended from Robert Brooke of
:: Calvert County. He was probably an indentured servant of Henry Hawkins and
: judged to
:: be 21 in 1685. I have not been able to locate any tracts of land he owned or
:: lived on but he and his wife, Jane, probably the widow of Paul Burrows lived
:: somewhere in the Port Tobacco East Hundred. By her two husbands, Jane had at
:: least 5 children: Thomas Burroughs/Burras as well as sons John and William

:: I descend from son John Brooke who married Sarah, daughter of Peter
