I am coming to the Maryland to Kentucky Reunion in July which will be held in Hollywood in near by SMC. As I am traveling from California I want to make the most of my very limited time in the area.
Might any one know the where abouts of pre-colonial maps, deeds, or a Charles County historical society? I dream of walking in the footsteps of my ancestors but am not quite certain where any of the locations are and would not dream of distrubing current owners! My "gotta see it" list includes:
a.. Spye Park , White Plains on Padgett Road home of Thomas Hamilton 4th great grandfather and James Hamilton 5th great grandfather. Spye Park may currently be owned by a descendant of the Dement family who purchased Sype Park from the Bennett Hamilton heirs
b..
Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland ( this city seems to be a spot vistors are welcome to walk about)
c.. Burdett's Rest Charles Co, MD once owned by Thomas Burdett and Verlinda Cotton 8th great grandparents (Poor Verlinda's mother had a habit of marrying "bad boy's" and may have lived with them for a time)
Thank you for your time and advice!
Mary Beth
