I have a Hezekiah McCotter of Dorchester County MD that migrated to Craven
county NC some time between 1778 and 1780. There were many surnames from the
DelMarVa area that show up in NC.

How many other families migrated from Charles County to Granville County,
North Carolina and to Alabama? What counties in Alabama? Wasn't there at one
time a page or a database that someone was assembling of Charles County
migrations? Is there was, I've lost the link; if there's not and I'm
misremembering, I'd like to help put together such a thing.

Zachariah Dutton, for what it's worth, migrated to Granville County ca. 1795
and lived out the rest of his days there, dying in 1829. His children left
Granville County before his death (some as early as 1810); six sons migrated
to Morgan and Lawrence counties, Alabama, and one son settled in Anson
County, North Carolina.

Stephen Penn migrated to Surry County, North Carolina ca. 1794-98, then to
Kentucky ca. 1801-03, then to Tennessee ca. 1809/10, and finally to Lawrence
County, Alabama ca. 1818. Zachariah Dutton's sons settled on land adjacent
to him, in Lawrence County and bordering Morgan County. Stephen Penn died in
1839.

Lancelot Chunn, Jr. seems to be the migrant ancestor from Charles County to
Morgan County, Alabama, but I've done no research on this family and have no
idea if they were ever in North Carolina or what path they took. I am
wondering if he isn't somehow kin to Zachariah Dutton, but it's possible
that it's just coincidence. He settled near Valhermoso Springs in the
eastern part of the county, nowhere near where the Duttons settled. Lancelot
Chunn died in 1830.
