Dear Wanda:
I would say that your assumption of the age 21 being legal age in
Virginia was the same for Maryland--however there is a caveat to that. In
many cases sons were "emancipated" by the wills of their fathers to be of
age and liberty at age below 21. There are quite a few cases where fathers
left it in the wills that sons were to be of age "and for themselves" at age
18.
