On March 21, 1777, Thomas Johnson of Frederick was
sworn in as Maryland's first governor.

On March 21, 1815, Col. John McPherson bought lots
on Council Street at an auction. He built houses there
that are known today at the Ross and Mathias houses.

On March 21, 1883, Photographer Jacob Byerly, a
pioneer in the field, died at age 75.

On March 21, 1978, Samuel H. Rosenstock, a local
philanthropist, deeded his one-half interest in two farms
near Frederick Municipal Airport jointly to Hood College
and Frederick Memorial Hospital. The value of the gift at
the time was $300,000.
