On November 18, 1862, Dr. John Moran, the examining
physician for the draft in Frederick, was acquitted at a
hearing in Washington on charges he took bribes to exempt
certain young men from military service in the Union Army.

On November 18, 1866, Perry McClerry, publisher with
his brother Valentine of The Moon, and composing room
foreman for The Frederick News-Post for 40 years, was
born in the North Market Street house where he died
January 24, 1927.

On November 18, 1898, Admiral Winfield Scott Schley,
a Frederick native, arrived in Frederick to a hero's
welcome. It was his first visit to Frederick after his July
victory at The Battle of Santiago.
