On January 16, 1806, Alexander Contee Hanson,
son of John Hanson ("The first President of The
United States under The Articles of Confederation"),
a jurist and Chancellor of Maryland, died in Annapolis.

On January 16, 1940, four armed men robbed The
Walkersville Bank of $6,665.40 in a daring daylight
holdup. They were arrested on January 29, tried and
convicted. They were sentenced on March 9.
