On October 23, 1837, President Martin Van Buren and
other government officials were seen in Frederick at
Robert's Tavern.
On October 23, 1907, Judge James McSherry, Chief
Justice of The Maryland Court of Appeals, died at his
Frederick home.
On October 23, 1924, the Evangelical Reformed Church
on West Church Street deeded its former burial grounds at
West Second and North Bentz Streets to Frederick City
and Frederick County. The site is now known as Memorial
Grounds Park.
