On October 27, 1771, future Maryland Governor Thomas
Simm Lee, of Petersville, married Mary Digges.
On October 27, 1883, Elihu Hall Rockwell was buried
at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. He was a school teacher,
surveyor and civil engineer in Frederick County. Rockwell
Terrace in downtown Frederick was named after him.
On October 27, 1887, John Ritchie, chief judge of The
Sixth Judicial Circuit, died at his West Church Street
home.
On October 27, 1992, President and Mrs. George Bush
shopped at the J. C. Penny's store at the Fredericktowne
Mall on Rt. 40 West in Frederick.
On October 27, 1994, Julia Etchison Hanna, longtime
English teacher at Frederick High School, a News-Post
columnist and author, died at Sunrise Retirement Home
at the age of 97.
