On March 21, 1777, Thomas Johnson, of Frederick, was
sworn in as the first governor of Maryland.

On March 21, 1815, Col. John McPherson bought lots
on Council Street in Frederick at auction. He built identical
houses on them that are known today as The Ross and
Mathias houses.

On March 21, 1883, photographer Jacob Byerly died at
age 75.

On March 21, 1978, Samuel H. Rosenstock, local
philanthropist, deeded his one-half interest in two farms near
Frederick Municipal Airport jointly to Hood College and
Frederick Memorial Hospital. The value of the gift at the
time was about $300,000.
