Dear List,

Can anyone tell me about the history of the town of Lime Kiln, a few miles
south of Frederick? I am investigating a Carl Friedrich Kalkman, who in 1808
married Carolina Griepenkerl, who was born and raised near Frederick,
probably in the short-lived glass-making community of New Bremen.

In German, Kalkmann means a man who deals with lime, and I am curious to know
whether my Kalkman had anything to do with this town. It is probably
unlikely, because by 1814 my Kalkman was a shipowner in Baltimore, but I know
nothing of his youth, and want to check even remote possibilities.

Any help will be greatly appreciated by
