On January 30, 1841, George Alfred 'Gath' Townsend, youngest Civil War
correspondent and the builder of the stone monument at Gathland State Park
near Burkittsville to War Correspondents, was born.


On January 30, 1944, Dr. Levin West, a Brunswick physician for 58 years, a
banker and councilman, died in Frederick. He was buried at St. Mark's
Episcopal Church. He was born on July 26, 1864, near Petersville.
