My ancestor, Johann Ludwig WISSINGER and his wife Catherine settled near
Middletown, Frederick Cnty, Maryland around 1750. They were very active in
the Lutheran Congregation there and helped build a log structure for their
church, shared by the Lutheran and the Reformed congregations in 1750. This
group eventually purchased an acre of land from Mr. Conrad Crone. It was
located on Main Street in Middletown where they built a log structure for
their services when the two groups separated. This church became the
Lutheran Congregation of Zion Church.
I am trying to understand where my ancestors lived and presumably farmed. I
found a Tax assessment list for Monocacy Hundred, Md - Ludwick Wissinger
with 3 cattle, 20 acres of land and good amounting to 59 pounds.
My understanding of the Monocacy Hundred is that it became Creagerstown
which is Northeast of Frederick - an unlikely location for my ancestor to
live.
Can someone educate me on the Monocacy Hundred and where it was located ?
Thanks
Bob Wissinger
