On July 12, 1861, John W. Baughman, editor of The Citizen, was arrested at
Sandy Hook in Washington County, on a charge of treason. He was released on
July 15 after taking the oath of loyalty to The Union.
On July 12, 1936, Reuben Hann, the last surviving veteran of the Civil War
in Frederick City, was buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. He died July 10.
On July 12, 1991, the Monocacy National Battlefield was dedicated.
