I have a William T. HARBIN in New Market, Frederick County on the 1850 census, age 62. He said he was a "pensioner" and "teacher" and I am curious what that might have meant. What would he have been a "pensioner" from - at 62 he would have been too late for the Revolution. Did they give pensions for the War of of 1812 - I don't have any Williams who served in it anyhow. Were there any schools that he might have been a "teacher" at?
Assuming he died there in the 1850's or so, are there any death or cemetery records for him?
Thank you for any help.
