On January 16, 1806, Alexander Contee Hanson, son of John Hanson (first
President of The United States in Congress Assembled), a jurist and
chancellor of Maryland, died in Annapolis. He was born October 22, 1749.



On January 16, 1867, a local post of the Grand Army of The Republic was
organized in Frederick. Edward Y. Goldsborough was elected "Grand
Commander."



On January 16, 1874, the Mt. Pleasant Charge of The Reformed Church was
organized by the Classis of Maryland meeting in Walkersville at the Glade
Reformed Church.



On January 16, 1940, four armed men robbed The Walkersville Bank of
$6,665.40, in a daring daylight holdup. They were arrested January 29, tried
and convicted. They were sentenced on March 9 to 20 years in prison.
