I am back from vacation. So sorry to hear about Lynn
Patton, but I'm glad the surgery went well. The Patton's do
have the best Bakery around!!
I will be attending the Opel Reunion on August 19th. Since
Cora Alice Knox married Simon Opel, I hope to gather more
information at the Reunion. I won't be able to attend the
Bittinger Picnic the day before, but I am truly looking
forward to the Reunion . . . and meeting many more
relatives!
I'm still trying to find more info on Simeon Knox, b. abt
1808. I have had no luck at all. All census (except one)
say he was born in MD. The only Knox's I've been able to
find 1800 and before in Maryland are in Worcester County,
MD. At this point, I'm wondering if Simeon was born on a
ship coming over to the US!! The only time frame I have for
his death is abt. 1868.
I have not been able to find out about the old church
records of the Brethren Church in McHenry. I've contacted a
few places, but they know nothing about the records. Simeon
Knox and his wife Charlotte Wiland lived on the property
which is now the old Gladys and Harry O'Brien place on
Accident-Bittinger Road. All of Simeon's children lived in
that same area. A few are buried in Bumble Bee Cemetery. I
have found that several of my Knox ancestors were buried
with no stone . . . just makes my brain have to work harder.
If Maryland didn't start recording official records until
1898, how in the world do I find out about Simeon's death
circa 1868?? . . . especially since I cannot locate the old
Church Records?? I'm at the point of throwing in the towel.
