Hello Edie:
Thanks for the help. I agree you can only get so much from the census,
and then you can't be sure whether the records are accurate or sometimes
even if you are interpreting the handwriting correctly. I ordered
the 1870 Allegany County census on CD, but it's not going to be avail-
able for sometime yet.
I find the entry for Eve Moon Lee in 1860 puzzling. Also in her
household in 1860 were William Moon age 85, Laborer (at 85 years?)
and Rebecca Moon age 87. He appears to have been born in MD, she in
Virginia. This William doesn't appear to be her brother. Their ages
are a little hard to make out, but when you zoom in on them, the first
number appears to be an 8. A William is in her household age 41 in
1850, age 85 (at least it appears to me to be 85), and age 79 in 1880,
which doesn't add up. Does a William appear in her household in 1870?
What age is shown for him that year?
I'm hoping to be able to spend a day at the courthouse and one at the
Historical Society in Oakland next week. Want to pick up a few books
and check out the Moon family history you mentioned. That's supposed
to be at the Ruth Enlow Library. We've never went out for the Bittinger
picnic, which should be next Saturday, so I'm looking forward to that
as well. If there is anything you'd like me to check on for you while
we're there, I'll be glad to try.
Sam
