I thought of something else. If you order that film, you could transcribe it
and offer to have it posted on www.rootsweb.com ? That's how all of their
stuff get there, by people sharing it. As far as the information being
available anywhere else, the Family History Library would have filmed it
from "somewhere" where the records were originally. I suggest you look at
the info again and note the source, that will tell you where to look if you
don't want to rent the films.

On Family History.com, the Mormon website, I found where you can order
microfilm of "Internal Revenue Assessment lists for MD 1862-66". There is
one called "Annual Lists which also has Allegany County, MD on it. There is
one called a "Monthly List." I guess during the Civil War, they taxed people
this special tax to help pay for the war. Just a list would be wonderful, so
we don't have to get the microfilm. It seems you can have these films sent
to your nearest Family History library, where you can view them. Your
nearest Family History Library would probably have to order them for you.
Would the MD State Archives have a list, do you think? There are several
more that are similar to this. Does anyone know if these lists would be
available anyplace else? Wouldn't it be wonderful we if we could just read
these lists on the internet? Thanks everybody,

Helen Rehm
