I have Isaac Allen Paugh married to Nancy Boyer as a son of James
Edward Paugh and Isabel Enlow; rather than the son of Betsy
McRobie. Hoye's Pioneer Families of Garrett County (432-433) says
Betsy McRobie had a son Isaac, but I don't believe he was Isaac Allen
Paugh. In fact, two census records (below) indicate his name was
"Isaiah", rather than Isaac.
I think all of the census records below refer to Betsy. -Sam

1850 Federal census, Maryland, Allegany County, Glades District,

Household of Nelson, age 33; and Sarah Baker age 32-
"Elisabeth McRobie", WF age 23 (1827), born in MD. "Ellen" (McRobie),
WF age 3 (1847), born in MD.
They were living beside Joseph Dewitt, son of John Dewitt.

in MD. None are shown to have attended school. 2362/2295

"Elizabeth", WF age 35 (1825). "Ellen", WF age 12 (1848). "Isaiah", WM
age 8 (1852). "Clarissa", WF age 4 (1856). "Jonathan H.", WM age 2 (1858).

Neighbors- William and Druscilla (Harvey) Lower; Thompson, Henry, &
Nathan Lower; Joseph, John G. & Isaac King; John Frey, Samuel McGiffin;

in MD. All family members are shown unable to read. 27/ 27
"Paugh, Phillip", WM age appears to be "41" (1829), Farmer, no Real Estate,
$700 Personal Estate. "Elizabeth", WF age 38 (1832), Keeps House. "Isaiah",
WM age 19 (1851), Farm Work. "Jane", WF age 15 (1855), Domestic Work,
attended school. "Jonathan", WM age 12 (1858), Farm Work, attended
school. "David", WM age 5 (1865). "Daniel W.", WM age 2 (1868).
"Ellen" may have been married by 1870, since she doesn't appear.
Enumerated just before Elisha Harvey, son of Nathaniel Harvey. This places
them in the area of Bethlehem Church.

"Paugh, Elizabeth H.", WF age 52 (1828), Widow, Keeping House, unable
to write, born in MD, Father born in MD, Mother born in VA. "Jonathan",
WM age 22 (1858), Son, Married, Farmer, born in MD, Father born in MD,
Mother born in VA (NOTE: above, Elizabeth is shown to have been born
in MD). "Rebecca", WF age 19 (1861), "Daughter Law", Married, At Home,
born in MD, Father born in MD, Mother b. VA.
For some reason a separate Family Visit "70" was entered on the next line,
but the Dwelling number remained the same; 53. "David D." (Paugh), WM
age 14 (1866), Son, Single, At Home, born in MD, Father born in MD,
Mother born in VA.
So from this census record it's not clear whether Elizabeth was born in MD
or Virginia. The family was enumerated between Benjamin and Isaac Moon,
placing them on Bethlehem Church Road just north of the intersection of

*Did Betsy McRobie have Ellen Paugh and Isaiah (Isaac?) before she married
Philip H. Paugh? Was her maiden name McRobie; or had she been married
to a McRobie? No clue.
