Lavinia,

I checked the Index for Armstrongs and found one reference to a Robert
Armstrong. He appears as a witness on the deed along with Joseph Beggs for the land
given by George Reinhart and his wife Susanna Reinhart on Sept. 20, 1827, for
The First Church of Christ in the Youghiogheny Glades.

Hoye's writes, "Before 1827 the German Lutheran and Dutch Reformed
Congregations had a church South of Oakland, doubtless the first church in all the Glade
Country, as indicated in George Reinhart's deed, which follows: ". . . unto
the Rev Frederick Hafs, Minister of the Gospel of the first Church of Christ in
Youghogany Glades, Allegany County, Md., known by the name of Sufsan for the
use of the German Lutheran and Dutch Reformed congregations as consecrated and
confirmed by the Rev Fred'k Heyer and Henry Gearhart to him and his
successors forever --"

The church house was built soon after the lot was surveyed in 1820. It was
located on that part of Reinhart's farm now belonging to E.G. Kite on the west
side of State Road 37 near the Grange Hall at Sunnyside. The cemetery was on
the high ground southwest of the church.

Perhaps Armstrong could be traced through that area.
