I know many newspapers charge to publish
obituaries, but for many of us it is the
first thing we want to read when we open
the newspaper. I think if we would stop
paying to insert obituaries for one
week, you would see many dropping their
subscriptions. Yes, many small
newspapers don't charge and really are
glad to get them. Cumberland Times is
not that big of a newspaper. Recently
when they were going to charge for
viewing it on the Internet, I had
several to write and tell them why we,
as genealogist were interested, but we
could go to the Oakland Republican,
Mineral Daily News, Hampshire Review and
get many of them. Just that the Times
is a convenience.
