Found this in my notes: Most likely the obit came from The
Republican Newspaper, Oakland, but it was a clipping, so I
have no way of telling that actual newspaper source.
Mrs. Letitia Friend DeWitt, widow of the late David O.
DeWitt, died at her home at Hoyes on Sunday afternoon,
October 12, following an illness of upwards of five weeks.
Mrs. DeWitt was the daughter of the late Isaiah and Julia
Casteel Friend and was born near Hoyes March 14, 1870. She
was aged 71 years.
On December 31, 1893, she was married to Mr. DeWitt to which
union were born five children, of whom four survive; William
W. DeWitt and Mrs. Harriett May Wilburn, Hoyes; Paul DeWitt,
Oakland; Hamilton DeWitt at home; seven grandchildren and
one great grandchild; also four brother and sisters, Mrs.
James W. Friend and Miss Molly Friend, Friendsville; R. B.
Friend and Hamilton Friend, of Hoyes. Her husband died
about five years ago.
Mrs. DeWitt was a member of the Hoyes Methodist church most
of her lifetime. Her funeral was conducted on Wednesday
afternoon at two o'clock when the Rev. R. L. Greynolds,
pastor of the Friendsville Parish officiated. Interment was
made in the Hoyes cemetery.
