Mike, Of course you are correct, that anyone can have errors. The
problem is that most sources are saying Lemuel Savage did not have a son
Salanthiel, but a grandson by that name (through Lemuel's son Asa). Now
we are getting mixed info on Newton Savage, as to who his father was.
I only have 2 books by Ethel Fike Friend: Memories at Sunset and History
of Sand Spring Church. Was your family mentioned in either of them? I
have not seen the genealogy she is responsible for at the Friend Family
Association of America museum library in Friendsville. I was surprised
she included Savages, as I did not know they were in her background. Of
course, I am constantly discovering the intertwining of families of
which I was not aware. I know Evelyn Guard
Olsen was aware of mistakes in Indian Blood, and was working on
corrections. Unfortunately, she passed away before she completed the
job. Delores

Being an engineer and all the research I do, I know it would be impossible
for Ethel Fike Friend NOT to have a mistake with the volume of material that
she published. I am not slighting her for she put a lot of work into a very
good research book. The amount of material is tremendous and statistics are
against her. There are very few academic books that don't have a second
printing to fix errors.
I do know she made a mistake with my family and parents. She has some of my
1/2 brothers and sisters with the wrong parents.
I don't believe she ever published any known errors. I don't know many
genealogist who haven't found out something they believed to be true for
many years proved to be wrong.
Thats why it is always best to have two sources for critical information.

Shirley, Are you sure Pam Frantz did not have a mistake with Salanthiel
as son of Lemuel? It is difficult to believe Ethel Fike Friend would
have made a misake, as she was a very thorough researcher and record
keeper, and she did not lst a son Slanthiel for Lemuel.
