I can't help as far as what happened to Charles Joseph Friend or who his
children
were, but here's what I have regarding the parents of Mahala McCrobie-

1870 Allegany County Census, Election District 15, Oakland
Post Office, taken June 4, 1870 page 16 (434b), SK Image
434b. All born in MD. 113/ 113
"McCrobie, Daniel", WM age 28 (1842), Farm Laborer, No
Real Estate, $75 Personal Property.
"Kezia", WF age 26 (1844), Keeps House. "Mary", WF age 1 (1869).
Neighbors- John Enlow, David Uphold, John Lower. Pleasant Valley.

1880 Federal census, Maryland, Garrett County, Election
District 7, Enumeration District 99, page 36, taken June 24,
1880. SK Image 99-36. No Dwelling or Family Visit numbers.
"McRobey, Daniel", WM age 38 (1842), Farmer, he and both
parents born in MD. "Keziah", WF age 36 (1844), Wife, she
and both parents born in Virginia. "Mary", Daughter, WF
age 11 (1869), unable to read or write, born in MD. "Mahala",
Daughter, WF age 9, (1871), b. MD. "Fannie", Daughter, WF
age 7 (1873), born in MD.
