Hi there,
The earliest VanSickle I have is Zachariah VanSickle (1755 ~ Oct.25.1834)
the father of your Zachariah. David & Zachariah seem to have been very
popular names among the VanSickles of that time in this area, so it makes
sorting the individual families a challenge.
Joseph Robertson () compiled a list from the Archives of the
State of Maryland.
In 1787 Deakin surveyed the land west of Fort Cumberland that the Maryland
General Assembly had in 1781 set aside to give in fifty acre lots to
Maryland Soldiers who served in the Revolutionary War. The names on the list
were the people that Deakin found living on the land in 1787. The following
year the Assembly passed an act to allow the settlers to purchase the land
they were living on for not less than 5 and not more than 20 shillings. A
three man commission was appointed to determine the valuation of the land.
A David VanSickle was listed:

The VanSickles are not our direct line so I haven't poked about very far on
them yet.
I do have them in my files because, like most of the earlier Garrett Co.
families, they are interwoven with our direct early families: Wolfe, Sines,
Friend, Johnson, Markley and so on.
I don't have anything else for your Mary & Daniel so I'd be glad to have
whatever you'd care to share for my database. Let me know if there's
anything I can help you with.
Bye for now,

> Hi - I am descended from the VAN SICKLE family who lived in the Garrett
Co. area from the late 1700's. My only information comes from the book
"Garrett County" by Stephen Schlosnagle, pub. 1978. Zachariah VAN SICKLE m.
Susannah and had children: Ephraim, Jacob, Samuel, Lewis, Zachariah,
Rachel, Catherine and Mary who married Daniel GRIFFITH, my 4th
great-grandfather. Does anyone know where this family originated? I am
assuming the Netherlands. Did they settle in NY or NJ before moving to MD?
What was their religion?
> Any information will be greatly appreciated!!!!!
