Rick, Your ancestor was John Savage who was a member of Capt. Benjamin
Winslow and Major William Mayo' party who surveyed the northwestern corner
of the great Northern Neck land tract of Thomas, Virginia's Sixth Lord
Fairfax. This was in 1736, when they left Harper's Ferry in October and
traveled up the Potomac.
They suffered greatly on this journey and if you know the story you know
John offered his own body to help save the other men.
This is written about in "Garrett County, A History of Maryland's Tableland
by Stephen Schlosnagle and The Garrett County Bicentennial Committee."
This book has a very good history of Garrett county and is sold by the
Garrett County Historical Society, P O Box 28,Oakland MD 21550,
301-334-3226. I don't have the current pricing but it should be about $30.
There is more information in the book about Robinson Savage, who is also
most likely from your line.

| Hi Pat! Thanks for the info on the book. I am a novice in this geneaology
stuff, but have a lot of info I need to compact. Yes, the Friend family is
kin somehow with the Savage side of my family and yes I did a typo on Sang
Run. We visited out there quite a few years back with my Mom & Dad, The
Hornes from Warner Robins, GA and went to a Family Reunion for the Savage
Clan. My mom is the Daughter of Cressa Savage Scales(now deceased). We
stayed at a cabin on the side of the mountain on the Deep Creek Lake and I
remember it was nearly 105 degrees then up there and no AC except in the
cars. Anyway, there was a write up in a local paper about that time about
the Savage heritage and recognition of the area. It was said the our Great
Great Grandfather was one of the Expedition that Surveyed and mapped the
area, but they almost perished atop one of the mountain passes. Anyway, they
were finally rescued and settled in Sang Run I guess. They said the Savage
River, Savage Mountain Ran!
| ge was named after him. Anyway, we also visited the old home site where
my Grandmother lived on top on one of the mountains up there. Whew, what a
drive up it. Glad a I had a Dodge 4 wheel drive truck. Anyway, an relative
named Beula Mickler lived up there in a trailer house(she is now deceased)
and her son was there named Jim. She also has a son named Dennis. Don't know
where they are since she died. One of the relatives though had built a nice
log home up there also, but don't remember who it was. Not sure of the
disposition of the property since Beula passed away either. She was the only
link of information my Mom had up there, so we have been several years
without any. My Mom is still alive though and at 85 is doing pretty good. I
just purchased her a book from Blair Savage. It was a good deal about his
personal life though she said and had some missing information in it. She
sent him a lot of information to see if he was interested, but he never
replied back to her a!
| bout it yet?? Don't know if he will or not. Anyway, being down the lin
| e as I am, I have a lot of heritage to follow through on from my Moms side
of the family as well as my Fathers side, so any info I can gather is
appreciative for sure.
| Well, hope I am not to far off the rabbit trail for you, and enjoyed
sharing with you on this. Rick Horne
