Walt, sorry I misspelled your name. How embarrassing. I'll do better next
time.

thanks for the nickname information. I knew some of them, but never
heard of Nancy used for Anna/Annie.
My cousin Jim Hetrick, who has studied the German language and history also
informed me that the Germans had a strict list of given names for parents
to
name their children. No wonder we have so many in one family with the same
name.
My great-grandfather Johannes Hederich changed his name to Conrad after he
emigrated to America. His father, Johann Conrad, was no doubt in Canada at
this time or had passed away--I'm still looking. Conrad had one older
brother
name Johannes that died in Germany, a younger brother name Johann Conrad
and
still another, Johannes Caspar (John that married Laura Kimmet). There was
another brother Carl who is no doubt the Charles that is the Civil War
veteran
buried at Bear Creek Burial Ground at the Bender Farm off of Collier Road,
and
Martin (Mars or Mart), father of Jonas, Martha (or Matha), and Eliza Jane
with Dianna Musser; Lydia with Ester Hester Fazenbaker; and, with Rachl,
children named John, Charles and Mary (no doubt after his brothers and
sister).
We didn't know that our Conrad and Charles (wife Carolyn Gorr) were
brothers
until I received my research from Germany and my cousin educated me on the
given names--the birth dates matched those from the church. We have found
errors on Martin Hetrick's birthdates on his marriage to Rachl McRoby (dau
of
William and Sarah, Swanton area) and on his tombstone. He was born Jul 13,
1837.
We had originally thought he gave incorrect age information on the 1860
census, but it turns out that was the only correct information.
