Delores,

No need to contact Rodney, but thank you very much. Since I had put out my
original inquiry about a place I thought was called "The McKenzie Compound"
I have received some off mailing list McKenzie information. My goodness
there are loads of McKenzie families on this mailing list. And I want to
thank them all for coming to my aid! I believe now that it is the "McKenzie
Settlement" and the word Compound was perhaps a different twist.

Greenberry or is it Greenbury (seen both spellings) was the son of William
S. Humbertson and Mary Twigg. Greenberry would be the grandson of your
George and Lydia Humbertson. Lydia Winebrenner was the daughter of Morris
Winebrenner and Hannah unknown. Lydia was the sister of Margaret
Winebrenner who married Jacob Crow and who were my ggg grandparents.

Jacob and Margaret Crow(e) and their son Nelson were the families I was
seeking the location of where they may have lived. I knew Jacob had once
owned property because Dick Crow had provided a list of Crow/Crowe
transactions which is posted on the mdgenweb...thank you Dick!

I was just sent this information from a e-mail guardian angel;

Jacob Crowe bought abt 410 acres from the John Hoye estate in 1853. The
property was sold after his death to Richard Beall in 1871. This property
lies off Beall School Road in Garrett County.

Imagine my surprise on learning the location...I drove this very route twice
this year! I guess I'd better get back and take some pictures <grin>.

Now there was a brother of Nelson Crowe who lived near McKenzie Road which I
think is part of that McKenzie Settlement in Avilton. His name was Henry
Crowe and he married Harriet Drust. Henry's grandson Samuel Webster Crowe
is whom the "Sam Crowe Road" is named for. This road I'm told intersects
with the McKenzie Road.

So there ya go. Thanks to the help of you wonderful folks I have a pretty
good idea now of where my Crowe family lived in Garrett County! Don't know
if my ramblings made much sense to others but I can "see it" in my mind now
having had the opportunity to visit twice this year.

Carol

Carol,
My George Humbertson who married Lydia Winebrenner was a brother to
your Mary Humbertson who married William Crowe. I do not have Greenberry
Humbertson in my line, that I am aware of.
I am sorry I have not had time to contact Rodney Mc Kenzie yet, but
I still intend to do so.
Delores
