I have some information on this line. It's my husband's line - his
grandmother was Daisy DeWitt, daughter of William Lucian DeWitt and Catherine Elizabeth
Sanders. My information doesn't really line up with yours in that I have
Joseph and Margaret the parents of ten children dating from 1859 through 1878 with
no birth dates for the last three girls born to them. The marriage date I have
for them is 1858. My information is from Clifford DeWitt, who was Deputy
Court Clerk from 1959 to 1978. He compiled the information from the records of
"DeWitt Genealogy" by Mrs. William H DeWitt. Information published by Historian
Charles E Hoye and personal research he did at the National Archives and the
Library of Congress and was dated January 1984 (just so you know the source.)
The John DeWitt who married Margaret Hauck was living in the 1880 census and
died sometime before 1900. I find no Mary listed as one of their children but
one daughter's name was Mattie born in 1863. Joseph and Elizabeth (Casteel)
had 10 children, John being the fifth, and Joseph's parents were Peter and
Rebecca (Whetzel) DeWitt. They had nine children, eight of which were sons. I do
not have a list of the children of all nine children of Peter and Rebecca (so I
don't know if there was a Barnabas among them.)
This information traces the DeWitt line back to Tjerck Claessen DeWitt, 1620
- 1700 but is not comprehensive to all the DeWitts. It only follows the line
connected to my husbands line. I would be happy to share the information I do
have with you if you are interested.
