1850 VA, Preston Co., Dist 45
House 1042 1042
Nathaniel Casteel, 32, laborer b. MD
Phebe, 33 b. VA
Solomon, 10 b. VA
Harrison, 8 b. VA
Sarah, 6 b. VA
Elizabeth, 4 b. VA
Jonathan, 2 b. VA
Margaret 4/12 b. VA

It is very interesting to note that living a mere two doors away
House 1044 1044
Solomon L. Wilhelm, 60, farmer, b. MD
Margaret, 58, b. NJ
Elizabeth, 28, b. VA
Catharine, 26, b. VA

Since Phebe named her first son Solomon and her youngest daughter Margaret I
would pursue this and suspect Solomon "possibly" could have been her father.

Jo, I have a death date of Jan 16, 1902, the problem is I haven't a clue
where I found that information. I show Nathaniel Casteel died March 31, 1883
in Albright, Preston Co., WV. I checked the WV site for a death certificate
but there is nothing online.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

On Behalf Of

I have been trying to find death record and burial place for my great great
grandmother. From all I can learn, she was Phebe Wilhelm Casteel. She
married Nathaniel Casteel - not the one that married Jane - but another one
in Garrett County Maryland and Preston County West Virginia, son of Shadrack

Casteel. She was born about1818 in Virginia. The last I have on her - real

proof - was 1900 census she was living with her son William in Kingwood WV.
Her sister Elizabeth Wilhelm was living with them, as Elizabeth was living
with Phebe and husband Nathaniel in 1880 census in Preston County. Family
lore has she died in Jan. 1902. I cannot find a death record in West
Virginia or in Maryland. Her husband Nathaniel Casteel was buried in
Albright WV. As Route 26 goes accross the bridge from Kingwood, in that
turn is a cemetery next to a Baptist Church. We were told the Church knew
nothing about the cemetery. There had been a stone for Nathaniel Casteel,
but the flood of 1986 washed it away. We had previously found in Kingwood
library listings from the CCC of cemeteries and it lists Nathaniel, but not
Phebe. I believe they just "read" the stones, and maybe since he had died
19 years before her that there wasn't a stone. Have you any info on her?
We have heard but no proof that she may have been related to Peter or
Solomon Wilhelm. But again - no proof.
Nathaniel and Phebe Wilhelm Casteel had 5 children - Solomon Wesley, William

Harrison, Sarah Elizabeth, Mary M. and Margaret (Maggie). Any help
you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Jo in PA
