Mrs. Gladys Lucille Phillippi, 84, formerly of Friendsville, died Friday
April 23. She had been in ill health.
Born in Friendsville, she was the daughter of the late Dr. A. J. and Theresa
(Conner) Mason, and was the widow of A. R. Phillippi.
Mrs. Phillippi was a former school teacher in Garrett County and was a
member of the St. Mark's United Church of Christ.
Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Dean Browne, Cumberland and Mrs. Al Eckstron,
Denver, Colorado.
The body was at the Scarpelli Funeral Home in Cumberland. Services were
conducted at 1:30 Sunday in the funeral home by Rev. Arthur D. Leaker.
Interment was in Blooming Rose Cemetery. (1976)

Mrs. Vertie E. Phillippi, 80, of route 1, Oakland, died Saturday, March 1 in
Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Maryland.
She was born November 8, 1894, in North Carolina, a daughter of the late
William J. and Sara A. Mitchell Pike. She was preceded in death by her
husband Harry F. Phillippi.
Mrs. Phillippi was a member of the Pine Grove Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Floretta Davis, Mrs. Mariel Sines, Mrs.
June Friend and one son Paul Phillippi, all of Oakland; one sister, Mrs.
Leatha Hankley, Wytheville, VA; 22 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and
two great, great grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Stewart Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services
were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Pine Grove Church of
the Brethren with Rev. Donald Matthews officiating, assisted by Rev. Roger
Fike. Interment was in the Steele Cemetery at Friendsville.

Paul W. Phillippi, 85, Oakland, died Monday Aug. 9, 1999, at the Ruby
Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.
Born January 91914, in Ashe County, NC, he was the son of the late Harry F.
and Vertie L. (Pike) Phillippi.
Mr. Phillippi was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Oakland. A
U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Fourth Armored Division
of General Patton's Fourth Army in France, Belgium, and Germany. He was a
member of Proctor Kildow Post #71, American Legion and Lodge #11, Woodmen of
the World, both of Oakland. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a
member of Local #37, International Union of Operating Engineers, Cumberland.
His is survived by his wife, Hazel F. (Davis) Phillippi; three daughters,
Janet R. Browning, Deer Park, M. Susan Callis, Monrovia and Linda K. Friend,
Swanton; one sister, Muriel Sines, Oakland; nine grandchildren and four
great grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where services
were held this morning, Aug. 12, with the Rev. Roger Harrison officiating.
Interment followed in the Garrett Memorial Gardens, where military honors
were accorded by local veterans organizations
