I would be willing to bet that by 1870 the family had all married and moved
away--the youngest (Louisa would have been about 21 in 1870); Archibald would
have been 29.
Jesse would have been 56 . . . maybe still head of household if listed
first. Maybe both wives/mothers died or left for some reason. James
Frank/Ruth/Naomi could be Archibald's children or siblings. My take anyway.
I had a census sheet showing my g-grandfather's brother John Caspar and
Laura Kimmet Hetrick at 19 in the 1860 census. They were still in the same place
in 1870, but I lost tract of them in 1880.
John's great-granddaughter sent me Laura Hetrick's obit. She was a widow,
living with her unmarried daughter. Laura's obit gave me the information on how
long she and John had been married. He died just before the 1880 census. Lois

Hello, I'm new to this list.
My CASTEEL line left Allegany/Garrett County MD between 1870 and 1874
and moved to Somerset County, PA. (Jesse/Archibald/James Frank/Ruth
Naomi)
Here is my question:
The Jesse (Jessee is how Ancestry has him listed) Casteel in the 1840
census District 2
Selbysport, Allegany, MD appears to me to be the same Jesse Casteel as
in the 1850 census District 2, Allegany,
MD.
Jessee Casteel 1840
1 male 20 - 30
1 male under 5
1 female 20 - 30
2 females under 5
Jesse Casteel 1850
Jesse (36)
Nancy (35)
Wm (14)
Elizabeth (12)
Sarah (11)
Archd (9)
Mary (7)
Rebecca (5)
Thos (3)
Louisa (1)
Am I right that they are probably the same family?
Priscilla
