Just to confirm: What was the name of the book written by the historical society that was a compilation of various family info?

Charles Hoye was a grandson of my g, g, grandmother, Elizabeth Friend
through her first marriage to David Hoye.

Charles wrote "The Hoyes of Maryland" in 1942. It is out of print, thus the
high asking price you found.

As I understand it, Charles wrote many genealogies for Garrett County
families, which I believe were published in the local newspaper (before his
death in 1951). The Garrett County Historical Society (of which he was the
founder) compiled the genealogies into a book, which they published in 1988.


As with any genealogical work, there are errors on some of Charles Hoyes
work, but it is terrific resource if you are trying to find families in
Garrett Co., MD

Thank you Lois. The Hoyes book will be of value to me in my CASTEEL
research, especially Archibald, Jesse, and Shadrack.

Is the exact title, Hoyes Pioneer Families? I did a google search and up
pops Amazon with Hoyes of Maryland for $144.99. I'm reasonably sure we
aren't talking about the same book. ??
Did Hoyes write a lot of books about Maryland?
