'jog my memory', 'jog your memory' - some expressions I remember growing up with
I was telling my room mate some stories about growing up and living in Garrett County, Maryland; however, I can't remember how people were related or exactly who was who, so I thought I would drop this list a request for information.
I remember a Dr. Feaster, but I don't know much more than that - he was a physician and if my memory is correct he had an office on Oak Street (Oak Street would also be a section of the old Route 135 and newly called Maryland Highway that runs into Oakland from Mtn. Lake Park past the Rt. 50 intersection on the Oakland side - i guess the main highway that is part of the Town of Oakland city limits).
I think Dr. Feaster had at least one daughter that became a physician; and I think that Dr. Margret Kiaser (an Oakland, Maryland physician) was some relation to the Feaster's, but I am not sure. I think Dr. Kiaser is an internist type of medical doctor, and as far as I know could be still practicing in Oakland.
I also remember one year, there was a big women's seminar at Garrett Community College - participated in that event, and so did many other women. I was wondering if any one had the newspaper clipping of that event advertisement? It would be a rather big article showing several women with their children and telling who they were and what they did. I remember reading some thing about the seminar in both the Republican Newspaper and the Cumberland Times-News. I might not of kept the newspaper clippings, so I don't know if any one would have these newspaper clippings or know of the event and the women that participated in it. I did the display and information for 'Women in the Fire Service' along with Pat Bowser from Friendsville Volunteer Fire Department. I was a member of the Kitzmiller Volunteer Fire Department. I was told in the following years when I asked if there was going to be another seminar, that is was such a good thing, that people
didn't want to wear out a good thing. To my knowledge, there was no more seminars after that during my fire service years in Garrett County, Maryland.
I also went to a dentist when I was a kid who had an office on Second Street in Oakland some where just across the court house. I was born in 1969, and I was only in elementary school, so that would be during the early 70's that I went to this dentist on Second Street. I can't remember the dentists name, and would like to know more about him - if any one would know. My mom is deceased, so I have no one to ask about him. He was a very good dentist, and I loved going to see the dentist.
Finally, I published a church history book for the Kitzmiller Immaculate Conception Church several years ago. I was wondering if any one could provide more information on Sonia Pratt's art history project she did called 'Immigrant Brides Quilt' and the book she did to accompany her project?
I talked to Sonia years ago, and she said if the town bought the church that had just shut down, she would display her quilt in the church. Also, if any one knows the name of Sonia's book, please let me know, as I did not get the complete title from her. She felt that there was no reason to let me publish a picture of the quilt in my church history book since she had plans to do more with her art history project in the future. If Sonia has done any more work on her project, please let me know.
I am requesting more information, as this quilt has square for each immigrant woman that married in the United States - she interviewed the women at the church about their immigrant mothers and grandmothers that married in the United States and asked for a piece of some thing of their mother's or grandmother's to be sewed on quilt squares with their names also on the square. This is such a wonderful project I found so interesting, and I would like to tell my room mate more about it.
Thank you,
Rebecca A. DeWitt
