According to the family, the preacher Carrow Tolson was NOT related to the
Prout family, but was simply very inspiring and the parents decided to name the
child after him.

CT Prout was the 3rd son, born in 1885. His mother, Louisa Wickes Ringgold,
was from Millington, in Kent County (I think I said Queen Anne before, but
that was wrong). She moved to Ann Arundel County around 1870 as a school teacher,
which is apparently where she met Edmund Janes Prout, and they married. They
had a girl Mary Etta (Manie) in 1877, a boy Charles Herbert in 1879, another
boy William Leslie in 1883, then my grandfather Carrow Tolson in 1885,
followed by two more girls (Louise Ringgold and Edna Millan) in 1888 and 1891.

I haven't researched to find out what circuit the Methodist preacher Carrow
Tolson followed, or if he was a traveling preacher.

Mollie
