Tim,
The Baltimore Sun published articles by Emily Emerson Lantz and others on
prominent Maryland and Virginia families. I remembered reading about them,
along with a list of them, not long ago in the Maryland Genealogical Society
Bulletin and I just found that issue again. So, from the Winter 2005
Bulletin listing provided by John Thomas Gurney III, the Kemp article
appeared in the Sun July 9-16, 1905. From the way the list looks, I think
that means it was in two parts, on July 9 and July 16.

Subject: [MDGEN] Early 1900's newspaper article needed
Looking for any information on a newspaper article which I think was
from a Baltimore newspaper, but may have been Talbot County, in the very
early 1900's. A photocopy of this article was snail mailed to me by
Betty Hughson, a very kind fellow researcher in the Maryland area (whose
email addy I have lost) who had found it in a scrapbook in the Maryland
Room while visiting the Easton library. I believe she told me what paper
it came from and the date, but I cannot locate her email.
The article is 3 columns at the top left of the page and appears to be
about 1/4 page. At the top of the page in fairly large letters I see
SU, with the remainder cut off. I guess this could be either the day
Sunday, or be for the Baltimore Sun. At the top left corner I can see
that it is page 12.
I have used about every type of photo enhancement I have the
capabilities of using on this xerox copy, but after many months of work
I am still unable to read about 30% of it due to the condition of the
original she had to copy, but I can read enough of it that I sure know I
want to read the rest. It had folds, tears, and much discoloration. My
other hobby is photo restorization and enhancment, but I was
unsuccessful with this. I am hoping someone may know what I am
referring to and have access to a better original.
This was evidently part of a series that ran in a Baltimore newpaper in
the early 1900's about different prominent families of Maryland. This
particular installment is about the KEMP family of Talbot County and the
Third Haven Meeting House in St. Micheals.
The article title lines read
MARYLAND HERALDRY
The History of Distinguished Families and Personages
THE KEMP LINEAGE AND ARMS
Connected with Founding and Developement of Talbot County
by EMILY EMERSON LANTS
The article is about Robert Kemp and his family. He was an immigrant
from Yorkshire, England who was instrumental in the the early growth of
the Bayside and Third Haven Quaker Meeting on the Eastern Shore near St.
Micheals.
If anyone is familiar with this article I would very much appreciate
getting either a scan of a better copy, or a text fil of the article if
that exists anywhere.
Thanks in advance
Tim Kemp
