Carol, if you didn't already know the christain name of Stanislaus is
usually Polish. Could that be a clue? Could the surname of Knott be an
English translation of a longer and more complicated Polish surname and that
is why you aren't locating the Knotts before 1850? Just a thought on my
part. For what it is worth. Medley district of course is in Poolesville. I
have the book on the history of Poolesville and the one of the cemeteries in
Montgomery County but not handy at the moment. If you want me to I can
search it out to see if there is any help there. Just let me know. Jackie in
Idaho

They were married in 1853 in Montgomery Co. So far I have not been able to
trace them before that and find their parents. On the 1850 census of
Montgomery Co. Medley Dist. there is a Charles Smith with a daughter Mary C.
that is 19. That would be the right age for my Mary C. A neighboring
family was the Stanislaus Knott family. On the 1850 census, the oldest son
listed is Peter who is 17. By comparing the family data with the 1840
census of the family, two sons had left home by 1850. If any one has
information about these families, where they attended church (I assume the
Knott family was Catholic), or anything about any of their relatives I would
appreciate the help, or where I might look for the answers.
