Hello,
I have several book that have the surname Knot or Knott. One book is Cavaliers
and Pioneers by Nugent. The book list the first planters in America "The London
Company" from the 1600 and 1700's. There are both Knot and Knott mentioned.
Another book is Maryland Marriages 1634-1777 by Barnes there are the following
Knot/Knott/Knotts:
James
John
Robard
Solomon
William
There were married in the 1730's, 1740's, and 1750's.
If you would the rest of the information please let me know.

Someone's idea about anglicizing the surname is very possible.
