Here are a couple of really good websites about Sandy
Spring and the Quakers (they founded the village in
the 1700's - the Brooke's were some of the first
families in the area). If I am not mistaken Sandy
Spring is also the first free Black settlement in the
County (if not the state) as well. Make sure you click
on the timeline at the site, it gives lots of
chronological history.
