Jean Boutcher,

This has been the most enjoyable web site I have ever received. Having
lived in Sandy Spring as a child (1945-1952), I can still remember the many
people mentioned and the photographs of the many areas. My father managed
the Ashton Dial Telephone office during world war ll. We lived in Sandy
Spring two houses up from the old Sandy Spring grocery store.

I have been writing my autobiography, and many of the good times come to
mind as I write. Sandy Spring was truly a wonderful place to live as a
child.

Prior to moving into Sandy Spring we lived in Ashton, and prior to that we
lived on a huge farm owned by Mr. Beauchan, which I believe was on Lay Hill
Road.

It was a sad day when our family had to move, due to a promotion my father
received with the telephone company. I missed the many families we grew to
know, the good times as a child, the Quaker lane where we often times
attended the church, and the freedom in this small village.

If anyone would have pictures of Sandy Spring or Ashton in the 1940's and
50's, I would love to see them.

Thank you so very much !

Leta (Smith) Sheaffer
