Subject: [MDMONTGO] Cook - Rockville 1840's and earlier - probate and landrecords needed
Date: Sat, 14 Jun 2008 12:34:08 -0400
I have information on the will of one John Cook who was an attorney in
Rockville MD and died in the 1840's. He left land to his nieces and a
nephew which consisted of parceles in Georgetown and DC which had
previously been owned by his brother Thomas Cook.
I am trying to find out about Thomas Cook and what happened to him. I
suspect he left the state of MD and moved west but am having a real
hard time tracking him down.
Where would I find the land records for this property in Georgetown
and DC - would they be in MD records or do I need to search in DC (I
do not find DC listed on the GENWeb Project at all). I know Thomas
was alive in 1798 as he is listed as executor of his father's will
(date written) in Frederick Co., MD. They were both the son's of a
George and Elizabeth Cook. I believe Elizabeth is in Montgomery Co.
after her husbands death in about 1800. George's will lists his
living children in 1798 as Thomas, John and Ann. I am trying to find
out what happened to Thomas between the death of his father and the
death of his younger brother John Cook (the attorney in Rockville MD)
and am hoping this land records of this property will tell me when the
land was transfered to John Cook and if it was given, sold or left in
a will from one brother to the other...
This has been a real brick wall for my research for many years. I
would love to hear from anyone who can help me locate these records or
give any information about this set of brothers Thomas and John Cook
of MD. Chances are Thomas was born before the revolution in Calvert
Co., MD where his family lived at that time - however John was younger
and may have been born in Frederick or Montgomery Co. - their parents
were married in Calvert Co. in 1760.
Thank You
AmyAnn
