Hi, list,

Does anyone know why John Bradford called Thomas Gant his brother in John's
26 Mar 1726 will in this phrase "Exs.: Wife Joyce, son John, James Carroll
and bro. Thomas Gant"?

Thomas Gant is not mentioned anywhere as being related to the Carrolls. John
was married to Joyce Carroll. According to various documents and the book
"Princes of Ireland, Planters of Maryland", Joyce was the daughter of
Anthony Carroll of Liseenboy, Ireland, brother of Charles Carroll
(1661-1750). Charles had married Nov 1689 Martha, the widow of Robert
Ridgely and Anthony Underwood. Martha died in Nov 1690 bearing their son,
Anthony who died at birth. In Feb, 1696/94m Charles married Mary Darnall,
c/o Henry and Eleanor (Hatton) Darnall.
