Hi - I am new to the list - working on a Somerset Cty. Horsey family but a
Hopewell or two has cropped up in my research and I can't find them in
Somerset Cty. In the Md Calendar of Wills I noticed several HOpewells in St.
Mary's County -
Maryland Calendar of Wills: Volume 6
9th May, 1731;
27th Nov., 1732.
To son Richard Hopewell, money due from estate of George Muschamp, dec'd.
To son Joseph Hopewell, ex., certain personalty during life, to pass at his
death to grandchild. Hugh, John, Ann and Elizabeth Hopewell; ½ stock on
plantation to pass to grandson William Hopewell, to whom sd. son is desired
to leave his plantation.
and
Maryland Calendar of Wills: Volume 4

Test: Fran. Hopewell, Thomas Hebb, Jr., Susanna Coleman. Duckworth, Ann,
widow,St. Mary's Co. and
Ann Duckworth's will:
To grandsons Hugh, John, Richard (at age of 21) and Thomas Francis Hopewell,
dau. Ann Aisquith, granddaus. Ann and Elizabeth Hopewell, personalty.
To dau. Susannah King, 1s.
To grandchild. Richard, William, Joseph, Hugh, John, Thomas Francis, Ann and
Elizabeth, produce from sale of ½ stock, etc.
I have two children from different parents I think with the following names:
William Hopewell Horsey (father John Horsey, mother Priscilla Hopewell?)
Thomas Hopewell Horsey (father Smith Horsey, mother Mary Hopewell?)
Priscilla and Mary would have been born around maybe 1750 or 1760 or so. The
children Thomas and William were born in the 1790's. Hopewell appears in no
other Horsey names and because of the habit of naming one of the children
with the mother's maiden name I am wondering if anyone can help me find the
family so I can check this further. Thanks very much. LIz
